I am reposting the thoughts that Denise posted at the end our last discussion. Though it might be "cleaner" to keep different topics seperate:
"Wonder if I might take us in a different direction given it is Easter today? It is about the atonement of Christ. We had a very good discussion about it today. In summary there are basically two main concepts: PSA- Penal Substitution Atonement and Christ the Victor. At the foundation of these is the issue of original sin. Being raised a Calvinist, I overcome a great deal even to open my mind and heart to these issues- still complicated and difficult. But it fits very much in line with what we talked about earlier: the legal/ contract idea of God. So let’s talk about Psalm 51:5- the one quoted most often to defend original sin. ( I would also like to talk about atonement – but we have to start somewhere and I’ve found it best to “eat the elephant” one bite at a time. Thoughts- you want to discuss this?"
Searching 4 The Kingdom
I believe that God has been at work since the "fall of man" to reestablish His Kingdom here on earth. What God the Father started with Abraham, He continued in Exodus 19:4-7 with Israel. He modeled what it was to look like within the life of Jesus and left us to continue His work. My prayer is to find what this means in my life today.

What are we praying for?
Road trips are always good for a Theological discussion, and
this past evening was no different. We spoke about God’s sovereignty, how love
trumps so many things, and the importance of God’s Word in the life of a
follower. As the drive continued we eventually turned our focus to the concept
of prayer. I want to share with you some of our conclusions, as well as, some
of our questions. I would love to hear your thoughts as we boldly step before
the Throne, admit our lack of understanding, and humbly ask for directions down
this often travelled road.
Christians pray for many different things. Most often we
hear each other praying for God’s Will to be done or for the healing of a
relative/friend. Maybe we are in the midst of suffering, and our prayer is for
guidance or even relief. I believe the Bible is clear that, as Christians, we
should pray, but what does it teach us about how, when and why? I also believe
that prayer may be one of the most powerful, yet misunderstood weapons God as equipped
us with, and in our ignorance we forsake the very Kingdom we seek to advance.
Mathew 6 and Luke 11 both address some of the questions that
arise as we begin to think about and discuss prayer. I want us to look at Luke
11 specifically, because I am seeking the same guidance as one of the disciples
in the first verse. Even now it is my prayer that Jesus will teach us, through
His Word and by His Spirit, how to pray.
Join me as we look at this section of scripture, draw from
the Scriptures as a whole, and seek His wisdom about the topic of prayer.

Looking to resurrect this blog as a place to share ideas and thoughts. Many of us are readers and as we are processing our different thoughts and ideas that might arise out of our readings, we need a place to share with others. As ideas are presented, I want to encourage you to join in the discussion. I want this to be a safe place were we can learn from each other. In talking with a few of you, this seems like a needed forum and I welcome all.
